Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Emergency‘ has landed in trouble as the Sikh community has opposed to the film and demanded that some parts should be removed. This has led to the delay in certification from the censor board and hence the release date of the movie has been postponed from September 6. Kangana shared a video on social media on Friday and revealed that there was pressure to avoid depicting certain historical events and figures, such as Indira Gandhi‘s assassination and the Punjab riots, amidst other things.
Now lyricist Manoj Muntashir has dropped a video, as he comes out in support of the movie. He appealed to the Sikh community to view the movie with historical context and now as an attack on them He further added that the film is a product of the hard work and collective effort of over 500 crew members and hence should be assessed fairly.
He elaborated, “The issue is that the film shows the brutal assassination of Indira Gandhi. Are we supposed to believe she died in a road accident?” Adding further, the writer said, “I refuse to believe that Sikhs, who stand fearlessly for the truth with the chant of ‘Ek Onkar Satnam,’ are afraid of what a film shows.
Meanwhile, Kangana had reacted to this delay in the film and said, “Meri film pe hi Emergency lag gayi hai. Bahut hi nirashajanak ye sthiti hai. Main toh khair bahut hi zyada disappointed hu apne desh se, aur jo bhi haalaat hain (An Emergency has been imposed on my film too. It’s a sad state of affair. I’m quite disappointed by our country and whatever the circumstances are).”
